Reclaiming the word: Gender perspectives in German-speaking societies
This monographic issue proposes to explore the intersections between gender studies and German studies, addressing the presence, representation, and contributions of women from multiple perspectives. The proposal stems from the need to make visible both women creators and their representations in various disciplinary fields, paying attention to identities that emerge in the spaces of contact between cultures and that challenge traditional conceptions of belonging.
For that reason, it’s essential to establish connections and build bridges through an interdisciplinary approach, fostering dialogue between different approaches to German studies, always with a gender perspective as a starting point to recognize the multiplicity of experiences in German-speaking contexts.
On the one hand, this proposal aims to accommodate the analysis of female representation in linguistics, from DaF (German as a Foreign Language) teaching materials and feminist pedagogies applied to German teaching, to the evolution of current sociolinguistic studies and debates around the linguistic politics of German-speaking societies. When building bridges, it is also necessary to analyze how didactic practices can be adapted to educational contexts characterized by cultural diversity.
On the other hand, the contributions of female authors to literature in German language are to be studied, incorporating those who articulate hybrid and transcultural identities, and who are, ultimately, representatives of the current post-migrant society. The focus is therefore on works that allow understanding and addressing the challenges of the European present from German literature. In this sense, it is also appropriate to consider the role of women translators as mediators in the specific challenges when addressing, for example, gender-sensitive translation.
Finally, in its interdisciplinary ideal, this edition seeks to include the study of other contemporary cultural products and artistic manifestations that arise from women's experiences and that enable an approach to current German-speaking societies, and to do so with a clear gender perspective, also embracing the hybrid and transcultural identities that characterize them.

Since the 1970s, the study of the translation of children's and young adult literature (CYAL) has experienced a great boom and the initial reluctance, represented among others by Bravo (1976, 47), to recognize the convenience and necessity of dedicating descriptive studies to this subfield within literary translation, which confronts translators with specific challenges (Reiss, 1982, 7), has been overcome.
Among other challenges, the translator will have to overcome the difficulty of satisfying a dual audience. On the one hand, adults, in their role as parents, teachers, librarians, etc., who, according to the “image of the child” held in different societies throughout history, will act as a filter between CYAL and its final addressee, the child.
On the other hand, children, which will place the translator before an asymmetry between writer/translator-receiver. In this type of literature there is an abundance of dialogues between characters of the age group of the typical reader, so translators will find it difficult to reproduce the language of the children's audience (Reiss 1982, 7).
The image-text interaction and the role of orality (these are often works conceived to be read aloud by adults to children) are other characteristics that, although not exclusive to this type of literature, will undoubtedly put the translator's creative skills to the test (Oittinen, 2000).
With the cultural turn of the 1980s in translation studies, the prescriptivist conception of the originals as “sacred” texts has been overcome. This greater flexibility calls into question the condemnation of Bravo (1976, 7) of all the adaptations and deletions, so frequent in the translation of CYAL to adapt the texts to the specific needs of the typical reader, to which Levy (1969, 63) already pointed out.
The shift of attention from the source text to the target text and the proliferation of case studies within descriptive translation studies has led to the consolidation of the idea that, in the field of CYAL, the translator enjoys greater freedom to “manipulate” the original text, both in form and content, due to the peripheral position CYAL usually occupies, with few exceptions, in the literary polysystem of the receiving society (Shavit, 1981, 171-179).
In this context, this volume compiles scientific papers that address the study of the translation of CYAL between German and Spanish from the following perspectives:
- The reception of CYAL originally written in German in the Spanish speaking world through translation.
- The reception of the CYAL originally written in Spanish in the German speaking world through translation.
- The reproduction of feigned orality in the translation of CYAL between German and Spanish.
- Political correctness and taboos in the translation of CYAL between German and Spanish.
- Adaptations of specific cultural elements in the translation of CYAL between German and Spanish.
- Ideological manipulation through the translation of CYAL between German and Spanish.
- The translation of the CYAL between German and Spanish in the foreign language classroom.
- The use of artificial intelligence in the translation of CYAL between and Spanish.

Consta de una sección central con artículos sometidos a una revisión anónima por pares que aborda la investigación en filología germánica desde la interculturalidad, la lingüística, la didáctica y la literatura, incluyendo también artículos sobre traducción e interpretación en el ámbito germanohispánico que, excepcional y justificadamente, se puede ampliar a pares de lenguas alternativos. Las demás secciones de la revista, que no están sujetas a la revisión anónima por pares, también tienen abierto el call for papers de manera permanente y se pueden enviar propuestas. Es el caso de la sección Didáctica intercultural (en el ámbito de la lengua alemana y española). Se trata de una sección de gran interés para la enseñanza del alemán en la educación primaria y secundaria y en la formación universitaria, así como en las Escuelas Oficiales de Idiomas (EOI) y en los centros universitarios de idiomas. Ofrece una plataforma en la que el profesorado de alemán como lengua extranjera (DaF y DaZ) proyecta sus propuestas didácticas e intercambia reflexiones acerca de actividades docentes. En la sección Otriversos se presentan visiones y experiencias interculturales que ponen en valor perspectivas diversas, mientras que la sección Reseñas recoge novedades bibliográficas y en la sección Informes se divulgan actividades relacionadas con la cultura germana.
Magazin se dirige a un público interesado en la investigación y el análisis de conceptos y aspectos culturales. Este objetivo la distingue de cualquier otra publicación científica actual. La revista Magazin está presente en Dialnet y en los índices CIRC, DICE, MIAR y RESH. Cumple 37 de los 38 criterios de calidad en Latindex Catálogo V 2.0, 12 de 21 en CENAI y 12 de 18 exigidos por la ANECA. Por supuesto, se persevera en seguir mejorando los indicadores de la revista.
