Review of San Juan de Dios. Critical Guide to the Hospital Complex of Bogota

Abstract

In the year 2023 the publishing house of the District Institute of Heritage of Bogota (IDPC) launched the book San Juan de Dios. Guía crítica del conjunto hospitalario de Bogotá, which gathers the research of the “bogotanólogos” Adriana Uribe Álvarez and John Farfán Rodríguez, and which shows us the need to turn our gaze not only to this hospital, currently a symbol of the struggle for public health in Colombia, but also to the territory that hosted it since the twentieth century. This article aims to critically review this work, highlighting its intellectual value and academic rigor, as well as its importance for the current Colombian hospital context.
