Abstract

El Naranjo is a neighbourhood in Fuenlabrada that developed between 1970 and 1985. It is a period of demographic growth characteristic of developmentalism with cheap housing and no urban planning. Built as a set of blocks without cohesion, it is currently a habitable community thanks to the adaptation of spaces for care and coexistence where inclusive regeneration and the care economy are promoted. This research reviews the spaces of El Naranjo from a multi-scalar and transversal approach from the gender perspective, considering the transformations made by women in housing and the neighbourhood. The analysis is carried out through the combination of qualitative methods - interviews with neighbours and focus groups with neighbourhood associations - and quantitative methods - thanks to the development of a battery of multidimensional and inter-scalar indicators. After the research, it is observed that the residents have created a strong identity through their struggles and changes, transforming an unfavourable environment into one of quality and pride.
