Fake news: como compreender a evolução do engano mediado

As fake news e os fenómenos de manipulação informativa não são fenómenos novos. No entanto, as circunstâncias tecno-sociais do nosso tempo, criaram um contexto favorável ao aumento da sua visibilidade. Este artigo propõe uma revisão da literatura que articula várias dimensões para explicar a especificidade do que vivemos. Começando pela dimensão historiográfica da mentira mediada pela imprensa, é analisado o aparecimento da falsidade como consequência da rápida evolução do jornalismo, propondo-se depois o seu enquadramento no complexo contexto atual que coloca desafios aos quais os jornalistas têm tardado em responder. As dinâmicas cognitivas do indivíduo, que tem acesso a uma quantidade inédita de informação, são também abordadas como peças da interpretação multidimensional de um problema que parece depender de efetivas mudanças estruturais.
