Abstract

This communication aims to give the French author Simone de Beauvoir back her rightful place: a landmark in contemporary thought. His revision of the traditional philosophical concepts became a precious scalpel with which to break the reality and the myths in which women are immersed. The end result was a new category of analysis: the Other or the place where the man has placed the woman, turning her into an idea. Through her reflections Simone de Beauvoir wanted to communicate what was original in her experience, she wanted to transcend and left traces. Its traces can be traced both in enlightened feminist thought and in the discourse of difference, but its evocative power is such that it manages to go beyond the field of ethics to move to that of aesthetics. Judy Chicago, Martha Rosler and Ana Mendieta will be some of the proper names in charge of transferring Beauvoir's imprint to the art world: when women dream they do not have to do so with men's dreams.
