Este trabajo pretende analizar la compleja construcción de la identidad femenina, el trauma y el fracaso en La reina de la belleza de Leenane, de Martin McDonagh y en Una chica es una cosa a medio hacer de Eimear McBride. Como sugiere el título, “No hay ángeles en la casa” se refiere al papel de ser madre que se ha mantenido firme en la sociedad tradicional irlandesa, y cómo la sublimación de la figura de la madre ha evolucionado hacia aspectos más sombríos de la vida doméstica. Se exploran los conceptos de lo maternal y las consecuencias dramáticas de una crianza religiosa dogmática que estigmatizará la vida de las protagonistas. Se aborda el estrés postraumático que sufren las protagonistas ante la imposibilidad de definirse en un entorno hostil. Ese reconocimiento de fracaso y espejismo provocará la desintegración de las protagonistas en un vacío existencial indefinible.
