The Role of the Web and Social Media in the Tourism Promotion of a World Heritage Site. The Case of the Alcazar of Seville (Spain)

Resumen

The Web and the new technologies are useful for guaranteeing the promotion and the tourist enjoyment of a cultural asset. The objective of this study is to analyze the promotional strategy on the official website and on social networks developed by the Alcazar of Seville. With the Facebook´s fall, Instagram and Twitter have gained more importance which have experienced a great growth during 2017, positioning themselves as the social networks that generate the greatest interactions. In the publications, persuasive communication stands out, and details the architectural and landscape attributes of the Real Alcazar of Seville.

Dr. Concepción Foronda- Robles is a senior lecturer at the Department of Human Geography at the University of Seville (foronda@us.es). Her scientific record focuses on the planning and sustainable management of tourism destinations and the building of social capital in local development processes. She has experience in the management of national R&D projects. She is currently involved in the “Tourist destinations as intelligent territories”.

Donatella Carboni (PhD) is associated Professor on Human Geography. She researches interests focus on the environmental sustainability and the coastal integrated management. Other interests regard beach tourism management and the tourism on the National Parks and on the Protected Marine Areas. She has experience in the management of national and international R&D projects. President of the master's degree course in Foreign languages and literatures for cultural mediation and local development of the University of Sassari.
