This article presents a proposal for critical reading from a gender perspective using a technological tool; specifically, a mobile application called «La Lupa de Género». Since children’s literature is a cultural product that influences the development of people’s identity, this application analyses gender representation in children’s books, aiming to develop critical reading from formative stages. The theoretical framework explores children’s literature as a socializing and performative agent of gender, as well as the evaluation of gender bias in children’s books and the role of digital applications in the development of critical reading. The methodology details the fifteen variables (gender markers) that compose the diagnostic tool. These variables are coded in a questionnaire that applies content analysis and whose result materializes in a traffic light rating (green, amber, red) of the gender representation projected in the books. The discussion addresses the potential of the app as a tool for social change in educational environments and recommends its use for teachers, librarians, and families interested in the conscious selection of children’s literature. The conclusions highlight the role of the application as a diagnostic tool and recommendation platform, based on the database that is fed as more books are diagnosed, to contribute to the construction of critical citizenship and reflective literary education through the selection of books with more equitable and balanced gender models.
