The coachbuilders’ union of Lima arose in the early period of 1575, being inspired by ordinances apparently in those of the city of Seville. Nevertheless, we neither know such ordinances, nor have too many references on the construction of carriages and the development of the profession in the capital of Peru during the viceroyalty. At least, a brief written in 1778 by Esteban Fernández Baisán, major teacher of the Lima union, allows us to know which the situation of the profession was in the City of the Kings at the end of the viceroyalty.
