José Risueño, one of the most interesting figures of late Baroque Granada, found in Archbishop Martin de Ascargorta his main patron and supporter. This relationship led to a series of commissions for the Cathedral of Granada, which are studied in this work. It analyzed the slope of painter and sculptor, providing a new painting to its catalog: a Virgin of Anguish signed and dated in 1698. We also provide new information about some unknown facets of the artist, who worked as a restorer, appraiser, copyist and singer in the cathedral.
