The ewer in the Cálices sacristy of the Sevillian Cathedral was built in the framework of the liturgical regulations issued by the Trent council. Probably, this is a work of the architect Asensio de Maeda, with the possible collaboration of the sculptor Juan Bautista Vázquez “el Viejo” and datable to 1580-1590. Stylistically, it meets the guidelines of the fullness of the Sevillian Renaissance and is associated with the best work of the same, the chapterhouse of the cathedral.
