Tea was introduced in Japan from China between VIIIth and !Xth centuries by Buddhist monks. This brought together the need of special utensils to be used in this ceremony, and a particular place where "Tea ceremony" could take place. In this way, a fantastic development of Japanese Art took place in all the fields. In architecture "Tea houses" were created, ceramics were enriched with the tea cups named "chawan", and Japanese gardens developed in a particular way in order to have "Tea houses". We can say that the "Art of Tea" is one of the most characteristic expressions of Japanese art.
