We deal fundamentally with the dispute between the Villaescusa and Talavera that collects the Ms 133 (factitious volume) of the BH of the Complutense University, fols. 161r-163v; 165r-171v., on the return of the Judeo-converts to Judaizing practices, which had been the subject of debate as a result of the conflicts of Seville of 1480 by Hernando de Talavera to refute the heretical libello in his Catholic challenge (published in Salamanca in 1487). The discussion is cordial because Mr. Villaescusa and Talavera are disciples and teachers. Mr. Villaescusa begins by refuting the excessively permissive exegesis (Ex 12 and Lev 7-11) of El Tostado with respect to Judaic practices. The master Fray Hernando defends the position of Alfonso de Madrigal on Judaizing practices using the Pauline texts, those of St. Augustine and St. Thomas, among others, and turns to the Ethics of Aristotle (in the translation of L. Bruni) —as a professor who was of Moral Philosophy in the Study of Salamanca—. Villaescusa does not answer —as far as we know— the master but will give us a broad treatment of the subject in his work (written between 1502-1504) De Religione Christiana contra transeuntes vel redeuntes ad Iudaeorum ritus Mss 2413 of the BG University of Salamanca, especially fols. 233-275, liber tertius.
