Abstract

The urban development of Constantina has been historically characterised by its adaptation to the lineal and sinuous morphology of the valley of the Osa. During the nineteenth century and the first thirty years of the twentieth its present day image was defined as the result of a progressive piping of the Villa river that allowed the settlement on its banks. A new North-South urban axis was thus established from the Alameda to the piazza of Santa Ana to arrange the new public facilities (a cementery, a public market, a school and the town council).  All these buildings were designed by architects of great interest for the history of Sevillian urbanism.
