Abstract

The decrease in the number of hospitals in Seville in 1587 had important consequences in the domain of the arts. A significant number of houses and works of arts were on the market, both from Seville and America. This also caused the further building of the hospitals Amor de Dios and Espíritu Santo, which followed a bureaucratic construction process I will discuss in this paper. Furthermore, Vermondo Resta' s, Asensio de Maeda's and Juan de Oviedo's contribution to this process should be emphasized.
