Abstract

In this paper we present an analysis of the papers referred to the rebuilding of the Puente del Barrio de la Merced de Quito during the term of office of the President of the Real Audiencia, Dionisio de Alcedo y Herrera, after the previous one was ruined. This rebuilding is explicited in a dossier sent by the President to the King, and to which he was accompanying the famous plan of the city of 1734, in which there was indicated the situation of the bridge and the gorge that it was saving. In the document is expressed the need for reconstruction and the process followed for it, standing out the people that led this work.
