Abstract

From 1530 to 1580 the city of Cordoba reached the culminating moment of its development during the Modem Age. Its fifty thousand inhabitans' activity focused on two important centres: one of them was parallel to the river, next to the main entrance of the city. It included symbolic buildings of the Church and the Monarchy and it was the cultural, humanistand representative centre; the other one, perpendicular to the river, was the financial district. It was the recreational and municipal centre and included Saint Peter and Saint Paul monasteries, the City Hall and La Corredera square.
