Abstract

In the course of the interventions carried out in San Isidoro del Campo, elements and structures which complete the picture of the original nucleus of this monastical complex have become evident. The Cistercian monastery founded by Alonso Pérez de Guzmán and María Alonso Coronel in 1301, offers us exhibits for view an authentic monastery-fortress endowed with a series of military elements amongst wich we can signal out the machicolations typical of Languedoc. The monastery, initiated in the purest gothic style, incorporates elements of almohade tradition, thus forming one of the most significant mudéjar monuments. Symbol of the society, an age and the power of lineage.
