Abstract

The aim of the present article is to study photography in the context of the so-called historical or classical vanguards, stressing the insufficiently recognized value of this medium in comparison with the plastic arts. The interconnection between means of expression -photography and plastic arts- has hardly been considered in traditional criticism and historical study, in some cases because the authors emphasise technical processes, in others because they stress the superiority of pictorial values, or else consider that it was the traditional arts that laid down the guidelines. To forget an area of creativity in the historical vanguards, such as the cinema or photography, is to upset the balance between the various elements in the debate, since both theoretical postulations...
