ISABEL CUBAS (183? - 1864), BAILARINA BOLERA DE FAMA INTERNACIONAL. RECONSTRUCCIÓN DE SU PERFIL ARTÍSTICO Y BIOGRÁFICO A PARTIR DE LA PRENSA DE LA ÉPOCA

Abstract

Con este artículo pretendemos visibilizar y reivindicar la figura de la bailarina española Isabel Cubas, que alcanzó gran popularidad en las décadas centrales del siglo XIX y fue una de las primeras artistas de nuestro país que llevaron a la escena norteamericana las danzas de la Escuela Bolera. Ante la ausencia de fuentes bibliográficas que permitan profundizar en la trayectoria vital y profesional de esta artista, hemos realizado una revisión exhaustiva de la prensa europea y norteamericana del periodo comprendido entre 1830 y 1865, que ofrece abundante información sobre el personaje.

Abstract

With this article we intend to make visible and vindicate the figure of the Spanish dancer Isabel Cubas, who reached great popularity in the central decades of the nineteenth century and was one of the first artists of our country that brought to the North American scene the dances of the Escuela Bolera. In the absence of bibliographical sources that allow us to delve deeper into the life and professional career of this artist, we have carried out an exhaustive review of the European and North American press from the period between 1830 and 1865, which offers abundant information about the character.
