Abstract

The objective of this work is to briefly analyze the figure of Elizabeth Gaskell, a 19th century novelist, and her work, specifically its female characters. This analysis will be carried out in relation to the social situation experienced by women of the time, an issue that worried many, including Gaskell herself.
