Abstract

Through the different literary genres, 19th century writers wanted to make known a new woman, who broke with the female role imposed by a patriarchal society. Susan Glaspell was one of them: playwright, actress, novelist and journalist, her first play, Trifles, is considered a masterpiece by the first feminists whose plot revolves around a murder and the symbolic figure of the woman as the bird caged.
