Fragmentation and depersonalization in postmodern society

Abstract

Postmodern society confronts individuals with significant challenges at social, economic, political, cultural, and ultimately personal levels. Changes in the way human relationships develop have led people to face issues that fracture their identity, guiding them down a path where fragmentation and depersonalization set the pace and can lead to self-destructive decisions. In this context, statistics, depending on the country, culture, religion, age group, gender, and other factors, either remain stable or show a tendency to increase in terms of the number of people making decisions against their own lives. For this reason, it is necessary to engage in philosophical reflection, drawing from existentialist postulates, to provide tools that can play a positive role in combating this phenomenon of psychosocial disheartenment. In this regard, the ideas of Camus on the absurd, Kierkegaard’s leap of faith, and Sartre’s radical freedom, among others, offer elements that can serve as a starting point for a reflection that can give meaning to the search for the meaning of life in the midst of postmodernity.
