The present paper is a comparative study on Ibn Arabi and Novalis as paradigms of Sufism and Romanticism, respectively. Considered from the point of view of the history of ideas, both systems originate in the mystical esoterism of Neoplatonic roots; considered from the comparative perspective, both contain the ideas and most important problems of that tradition: metaphysical assertion of the One, irrational way of knowledge and literary representation of the mystical journey, pre-eminence of poetical language, ontological and cognitive significance of love, recognition of the eschatological belief.
