FRANCESCO TONUCCI: LA CIUDAD DE LOS NIÑOS. UN MODO NUEVO DE PENSAR LA CIUDAD

Abstract

The book La ciudad de los niños. Un nuevo modo de pensar la ciudad, is the result of a practical and political experience. A laboratory of the same name carried out in 1991 in Fano (Italy), the author's hometown, which gives continuity, a few years later, to events as transcendental as the approval by the United Nations in 1989 in New York of the Universal Declaration of the Rights of the Child. A continuity that is not only in line with international policies and advances, but we must remember that it is in addition to the work of many other Italian artists and educators, from Gianni Rodari to Bruno Munari, and including such revolutionary scholars as Maria Montessori. Together with these authors, Francesco Tonucci not only draws attention to the role of the child and play in the generation of new urban models, but does so by means of a document that encourages and incites each of us to take responsibility, turning the reading of this book into a true process of education and change.
