Abstract

Sainz Gutiérrez has a profound knowledge of the urban history of Seville and, in particular, of its urban development during the second half of the last century, the period in which Rossi's trips to Seville took place, which had important consequences that the book recounts. In this sense, it is a well-documented chronicle of these events and their influence on the city's urban process, in which the action of a young generation of architects was key, and whose influence was felt both in their teaching at the School, then recently created, and in the different proposals and projects they produced for Seville.

Up to this point, the book might appear to be just another study on architecture and the city of Seville to be added to those that already exist, but its content is not limited to this, but takes on a much broader dimension by focusing on the significance that knowledge of the Andalusian capital had for Rossi. From its reading it could be deduced that, in reality, Seville was for the Milanese architect a mirror in which his figure is reflected, and that, in addition to being an indisputable nourisher of Rossi's theory and projects, it constitutes a symbol of his thought and, above all, of his architectural poetics.
