The convergence between public space and new technologies, as a founding concern of sound art, raises a critical analysis of recent topics about how artistic practices interact with sound.
After recognizing the socializing attributes of sound as a creative force, repertoires of sound art that have reflected on the urban experience are addressed. The concept of smart cities
helps us think about the emergence of a mobile listening culture, which shapes a sense of informational territoriality and shapes new modes of digital citizenship. From the point of view of sound art, environmental issues are also raised, recognizing in the problem of air pollution an adaptation strategy to the climate crisis. The interdisciplinary practice of sonification will be discussed in detail, analyzing the different aspects and potential developments in both the artistic and scientific fields. In addition, scenarios of relevance of sonification will be recognized under certain logics in a knowledge economy. As a complement to the presentation of the theoretical discussions and examples of problems
addressed, the text will report artistic works carried out during research-creation processes. These pieces were created together with students as a product of academic activities and
synthesize the concerns and determinations forged on the theoretical level.
