Abstract
This book presents a concise and accurate approach to colonial photography in different territories and historical periods, especially during the 19th and early 20th centuries. To do so, Puig-Samper reviews the photographic materials existing in different archives and libraries, also providing an excellent selection of graphic materials collected during his numerous research stays in different countries at the end of each chapter. Although the essay does not engage in dialogue with other authors on the limitations of the “colonial archive,” it does offer valuable elements to empower the reader in the face of racist positions regarding cultural diversity that are still today. This issue is not minor, since it clearly links to an anti-racist anthropological tradition that dates back to the work of anthropologists such as Lévi-Strauss at UNESCO since 1950, as well as to critical thinking that continues to promote decolonizing history from the Cultural Studies.
