Abstract

The sculptor Juan Pérez Crespo is an artist who has gone unnoticed in the history of Spanish sculpture. His life was developed in three cities (Lorca, Granada and Seville). He was born and lived his youth in Lorca (Murcia), learned the art of sculpture in the Alonso de Mena art workshop together with Pedro Roldán, married with the daughter of the master and sister of the sculptor Pedro de Mena, and finally settled in Seville. In the latter city he maintained friendship with Pedro Roldán, carved sculptures of San Cosme and San Damián, and died in 1659. His widow Sebastiana de Mena y Medrano moved to Malaga with Pedro de Mena, and their greater child Gabriel Pérez de Mena, after learning in the workshop of Roldán, moved to Murcia
