THE INDIGENOUS PATRONAGE: THE INSTANCE OF SAN MIGUEL ALLENDE

Abstract

The artistic patronage of the caciques and indigenous was one of the most interesting circumstances of the Mexican society from the conquest. The majority of this patronage was motivated to obtain political, religious or economic benefits. The proclamation of the King Charles the Fourth was the epilogue of the great Royal events in Nueva España at the end of the eighteenth century and in San Miguel el Grande city the celebrations were patronage for a local cacique and showed symbols and motifs of indigenous.
