FROM THE AFRO-COLOMBIAN STUDIES CHAIR TO THE SOCIAL REPRESENTATIONS OF THE NARP POPULATION

The present article analyzes the social representations of Afro-Colombian, Black, Raizal, and Palenquero (NARP) populations in Colombia and the role of the Afro-Colombian Studies Chair (CEA) in transforming these representations. From an interdisciplinary perspective, it explores the collective constructions of social groups concerning NARP identity, influenced by power structures and reinforced by the media. Additionally, it delves into how education can serve as a mechanism for social change by providing tools to deconstruct prejudices and promote an inclusive society. Ethno-education and the CEA are examined as strategies that recognize and celebrate cultural diversity, promoting intercultural education. This study draws on contributions from authors such as Serge Moscovici, Pierre Bourdieu, and Jesús Martín-Barbero, who offer a theoretical framework for understanding the significance of social representations in the creation of cultural identities.
