Abstract
This paper analyzes the adaptations for television of William Shakespeare's Macbeth. The text is divided in three parts. The first one focus on the faithful adaptations made for television, analyzing the versions made for Hallmark Hall of Fame in the United States in 1954, for ITV in Great Britain in 1982 and Estudio 1 in Spain in 1966. The second part of the paper focus on three free adaptations made by the British television in the past decade: Macbeth on the State (BBC), Macbeth (Channel 4) and the Macbeth episode of the tetralogy Shakespeare Retold (BBC). Finally, we will analyze adaptations of the play in cartoon, like in Shakespeare: The Animated Tales, The Simpsons or Gargoyles.
