Abstract

The narrative voice, a term coined by Genette in the study of the literary form, acquires new dimensions in film, as it is the case of the so-called voice-over, among others. One of the cinematographies which better illustrates the display and colligation of these multiple modalities of narrator has been, without any doubt, the work by Pedro Almodóvar, in particular his film Broken Embraces. The aim of this article is to study the wide range of narrators, starting from the analysis of several films fragments, in order to explain their ways of occurrence, their conception as elements of the narrative form, and their functions within the film narrative with respect to the development of specific iconographic programs.
