Las leyes científicas en el Tractatus y la paradoja del a priori contingente

Abstract

Si bien son múltiples las tensiones que atraviesan el Tractatus logicophilosphicus consideramos particularmente relevante la tensión entre la necesidad y la contingencia, que Wittgenstein presenta en las proposiciones que se ocupan de las leyes científicas, con especial referencia a las leyes de la mecánica. De estas proposiciones se siguen consecuencias que iluminan el peculiar estatus de las leyes científicas al tiempo que acercan elementos para el análisis de la estructura de las teorías científicas. Si bien Wittgenstein se refiere explícitamente a la mecánica newtoniana, es el objetivo de este trabajo mostrar – a partir de la exploración de la tensión entre lo a priori y lo contingente- la originalidad de su epistemología que nos permite enfrentar desde otra perspectiva algunos desafíos pendientes, como el que plantea la mécanica cuántica a los supuestos clásicos de la tradición positivista.

While there are many tensions facing the Tractatus logico-philosphicus we consider particularly relevant the tension between necessity and contingency, which Wittgenstein presents in the propositions that deal with scientific laws, with particular reference to the laws of mechanics. Important consequences, can be derived from them as they illuminate the peculiar status of scientific laws, while also providing interesting elements to analyze the structure of scientific theories. While Wittgenstein explicitely refers to the Newtonian mechanics as an example of his proposal, is the purpose of this study to show -from the exploration of the tension between the “a priori” and the arbitrary or contingent- the originality of his epistemology that allow us to face, from another perspective, still pending challenges, such as those posed by quantum mechanics to the assumptions of the classical positivist tradition.
