Uno de los problemas más discutidos en filosofía de la mente es si la percepción tiene contenido cognoscitivo, tanto en animales como en seres humanos. El objetivo de este trabajo es argumentar que sí. Nuestra intención es ponderar la postura de algunos filósofos de la mente contemporáneos con una solución ofrecida por la filosofía medieval. La discusión en torno al contenido noconceptual de la percepción en autores como McDowell, Bermúdez, Crane, Brewer y otros, está polarizada. Creemos que hacen falta análisis matizados. Para lograr este propósito recurriremos a Avicena quien, desde nuestra óptica, ayuda a equilibrar el problema y a encontrar una posible respuesta. Como iniciador de la filosofía de la mente tal como las comprendemos hoy en día, Avicena y su teoría de la intencionalidad permiten comprender cómo desde la percepción está presente ya la cognición y sin necesidad de contenidos conceptuales.
One of the most discussed issues in philosophy of mind is whether perception has a cognitive content, both in animals and in humans. The purpose of this paper is to defend an affirmative answer. Our intention is to weigh up the stances of some contemporary philosophers of mind with the solution offered by the medieval philosophy. The discussion around the nonconceptual content of perception in authors like McDowell, Bermúdez, Crane, Brewer and some others, is polarized. We think several nuances are required. In order to achieve this goal, we will appeal to Avicenna. From our point of view, he helps to balance the problem and to find a possible answer. As the founder of the philosophy of mind as we understand it today, Avicenna and his theory of intentionality allow to understand how cognition is already present in perception, without the aid of conceptual contents.
