Beginning with Machado's unsystematic and fragmentary conception of philosophy, this study examines the anthropological consideration of the Machadian self as an “introspective” construction through the creation of apocryphal characters. The objective is to identify one of the fundamental issues in Machado's philosophy within the essential heterogeneity of being. According to this philosophy, time emerges as the horizon for understanding human existence, leading to an exploration of the essential other that provides a perception of reality as mutable and changing. This mutability of being endows individuals with the capacity to shape and understand themselves through their other selves.
