The iconic has always been used to convey knowledge in its own way with different degrees of validity. This paper seeks to think about this question regarding the pictorial phenomenon of our time: the “new technical images’’. Thus, after delimiting their characteristics, its modulations will be specified in the scientific field, taking neuroimaging as a case study, and in the artistic field, emphasizing algorithmic art. Five aesthetic-epistemic notions will be questioned: truth, reality, novelty, imagination and creativity; finally outlining the possibility of genuine creativity in algorithmic aesthetics from the concept of “probability’’.
