RECORD OF TRANS DISSIDENCE ARIELA MUÑOZ, PHOTOGRAPHER

Abstract

The artistic career of Ariela M. gravitates between capturing the most intimate moments to mass coverage, as happened in the Incurables campaign [1] covering the city’s public walls with her images. Among the search for her own identity and the great contribution through exhibitions, her photo collections record transition processes, trans persons and expressions of sexual diversity, with a very careful and subtle esthetics. Her exhibitions are really impressive. Ariela is one of the artists belonging to the Diverse Record[2]of Costa Rican artists. It could be said invisibility is hers, not being sufficiently recognized as an artist, whose artistic proposal is an important part of the diverse identity development and of the struggle for LGBTI+ s rights in Costa Rica.

[1] The Incurables campaign, described further on, began in 2013 as a collective reaction, comprised by picture of people in straitjackets portraying madness in multiple ways.
