Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word format. Wherever possible, URLs are provided for references.
  • The text is single-spaced; 12 point font size; italics are used instead of underlining (except in URLs); and all illustrations, figures and tables are placed in the appropriate places in the text, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which appear in About the journal. Bibliographic references should be based on the internationally accepted standard APA.
  • If submitted to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, please follow the instructions to secure anonymous review.

Author Guidelines

Submission Preparation list

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check the following list prior to submission. Papers that do not adhere to these guidelines may be returned to the authors.

  1. The manuscript must not have been published or submitted elsewhere for consideration. A brief explanation will be necessary to clarify this matter.
  2. The submitted file must be in Microsoft Word document file format or in an Open Document file.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references must be provided.
  4. The text must be double-spaced; (a 12-point font; italics rather than underlining except for URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables must be placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. Title: Titles should be no more than three typeset lines.
  6. Author affiliation: Include department, institution, and complete address, with the ZIP/postal code, for each author.
  7. Corresponding author: The name, complete address, telephone number, and email address of the author should be provided along with the submitted paper.
  8. Keywords:  At least three keywords are required for each submission.
  9. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined below in the Author Guidelines.
  10. As IUS ET SCIENTIA is a peer review e-journal, the author must do his/her very best in Ensuring a Blind Review.
  11. In the case of co-authored papers, the authors must inform the editors of the journal of the criteria chosen to decide the order of signature and the specific contribution made by each of them to the published work. The contribution of each co-author to the final work must in any case be clearly specified in the text of the article in a footnote.
  12. Authors should avoid using sexist language, opting whenever possible for neutral terminology.

Author Guidelines

Manuscripts must be typed in English using MS Word or an Open Document.

Manuscripts should be between 20 to 30 pages, including charts, notes, and appendices.  Authors should place their names on the cover page but the name should not appear on headers or elsewhere in the body of the article.

Attached to all submitted articles must be a 150-word abstract, keywords and a statement containing the author's present academic or nonacademic position, affiliation and E-mail addresses where he or she may be contacted by the editors or interested readers.

In general, author should follow these formatting guidelines:

Main text:

  • Times New Roman, 12 p. justified
  • Foot notes: Times New Roman, 10, justified
  • Spacing: single
  • Paragraph Spacing: 0 (lower and upper)

Margins:

  • Right, left and top: 3 cm., lower 4cm.

Text Citation and References

Text Citations are important to avoid issues of plagiarism. When documenting source materials, the author/s and date/s of the sources should be cited within the body of the paper. The main principle here is that, all ideas and words of others should be properly and formally acknowledged.

The Reference Section lists all the sources you've previously cited in the body of your research paper. It states the author/s of the source, the material's year of publication (Volume and Number for periodical publications), first and final pages, the name or title of the source material, as well as its electronic retrieval information, if these were gathered from the Internet.

Articles

The Article is a work that deals in depth with a subject, that is supported by a critical apparatus and that also clearly indicates the handling of hypotheses to be resolved. The maximum length is 35 pages (including bibliography).

Comments

The Commentary can be based on certain document(s) or situation(s) that are specifically studied. It does not have a critical apparatus as it is more descriptive of the phenomenon under study. There are no hypotheses to be tested. The maximum length is 25 pages (this length includes the bibliography). 

Book reviews

The Review is a work in which the main ideas of a recently published work are presented, from a critical and analytical perspective, relating to topics of interest to the journal. They should be works related to Law and science written by the authors with the greatest impact. The books to be reviewed must have been published no more than two years prior to the publication of the issue of Ius et Scientia that contains them. The body of the work is indicated, as well as its bibliographic record. The maximum length is 5 pages.
