This article seeks to understand the path of the European institutions to strengthen the protection of platform workers and what it would mean to introduce a European definition of a worker. To do so, it will review the main case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union concerning the concept of worker, the attempt at a legal definition of worker at European level, the European Commission’s guidelines for the negotiation of certain self-employed persons and, finally, the proposed directive for platform workers.
