The main purpose of this paper is to present the work of the sevillian woodcarver Manuel Romero in the Algarve, his familiar and artistic background in Seville, some events prior to his coming to the south end of the portuguese territory in the first decades of the nineteenth century and, in particular, the activity developed by this master in Tavira.
