A collection of eighteenth-century silverware from Madrid has been preserved in three churches in the barony of Planes (Valencia, Spain). It consists of several liturgical objects, namely, a monstrance, a tray, some cruets and a hand-bell. They were made and marked in Mateo Díaz Mariño’s workshop, Madrid, in 1770-71. Mateo Díaz Mariña was a Galician who lived and worked in Madrid. The fi rst Marquis of Cruilles (Joaquin Monserrat and Cruilles) presented those pieces to the parishes of Planes, Catamarruc and Almudaina, probably to celebrate the confi rmation of this title as baronet of Planes. He was the Viceroy of Nueva España from 1760 to 1766.
