Sculpture XVIII Century, José Salvador Carmona, Academia de San Fernando de MadridAbstract
The large number of signed and dated works or the sculptor José Salvador Carmona known by studies along the last two decades allow for a revision of his production as well as a shaping of his relationship with the famous sculptor Luis Salvador Carmona, his uncle and master. The former’s attendance to the Junta Preparatoria and then to the Academia de San Fernando made him deserve a second prize of Sculpture. His work appears signed between 1767 and 1783, the first date corresponding to the death of his mentioned uncle, what seems to confirm the suspicion that he had been until that time working under his uncle’s shadow. The date of 1783 would coincide approximately with his decease. Contribution is also made of his biography and some disappeared images.
