The present article analyzes some of the most relevant aspects of the royal document by which the military engineer Ignacio Sala is nominated Governor and Commander in Chief of the city and province of Cartagena de Indias in 1749. It examines the details of his employment and trip. The article also assays the circumstances for which his participation becames necessary in the remodeling of defenses of the Caribbean city and some of his proyects and jobs.
