On March 20, 1563, Fr. Juan de Belalcázar, guardian of the Saint Francis monastery in Écija contract with the Flemish painter Giraldo de Hel the construction of the main altarpiece of that friary. The conservation of the contract, in the Protocols section of the Provincial Historical Archive in Córdoba, enables us to learn morphologically and iconographically so important artistic piece, replaced in the first quarter of the eighteenth century.
