One of the most important urbanistic works in the province of Cadiz has been the building of a new bridge in “El Puerto de Santa María”, to improve the communications in the area. Among different projects, this article refers to a previous boat bridge and a drawbridge called “Puente de San Alejandro” built in 1779. New documents and drawings are presented to widen the understanding of the history of its structure.
