Abstract

This paper studies the Valencian processional crosses’ iconography from the 14th century until 20th century. The majority of these crosses is covered and their images and symbols are highlighted. These are related to the historical age when they were added to the cross at the same time the conceptual and narrative images are distinguished. A big quantity of iconography types in medieval age is noteworthy. These types decrease during the next centuries until the 17th century, when this iconography is very limited. In this way the iconic language will survive until the 20th century.
