Abstract

Nobility was always wanted and respected in our city since the scarce economic priviledges achieved by its members never implied a burden for the people, and therefore, there were always confrontations inside nobility itself and never between noblemen and plebeians. Once dead Henry II in 1379, the socalled period of "The Bands of Seville" begins; fights between noble families in order to conquer the power of the city, to take revenge, or due to pride. The domains of Ponce de León, the Guzmanes from Niebla and other outstanding families, together with their servants, locked themselves in their houses and church towers tuming their dwellings into real fortresses.
