LOS «NAMBAN BYOBU» DE JAPÓN (UNAS PINTURAS CON TEMAS OCCIDENTALES)

Abstract

The wonderful screens to be found in sorne Japanese museums and in the Imperial collection are the object of this study. An outstanding feature of these paintings is that they are the first depiction of Europeans by Orientals, and display a unique vision of Western clothing, postures, ships etc. Ali these are repreented with the purity of line and exquisite colouririg typical of seventeenth century Japanese art.
