Abstract

Philosophy for Children is an innovative proposal that picks up and updates the thread of Western Philosophy from its origins in Classic Greece. Lipman and Sharp created the program upon the ideas of people like Dewey, Vygotsky, Piaget, Freire and Tolstoy; then, they suggested introducing Socratic philosophical dialogue in compulsory school, from primary school till high school, transforming the class room into communities of philosophical inquiry. Since the beginning of the program in 1968, it grew very fast all over the world; this proposal has a deep relationship with classical tradition of Western philosophy and with present trends that have offer a fresh impetus to the presence and influence of philosophy in many domains of social life.
